A year ago, we were approached by Jane’s daughter, who lives abroad. Jane was in her nineties and severely disabled, with problems with mobility and dementia. Although she was a resident in an excellent Nursing Home, recently she had been largely unable to leave her room. A local Occupational Therapist had suggested that we might be able to help.
One of our Trusted Assessors visited her at her Nursing Home and advised that a portachair could help. We took a chair along and she was hoisted directly into it and then wheeled to the day room. She hadn’t been there for weeks and as soon as she saw her friends again her mood improved instantly.
We discussed this with her daughter who wanted the best for her but didn’t want to make a mistake and was worried about the cost, so we suggested that she could try renting the chair for a month. It was soon clear that the seat was making a huge difference to her so after a couple of weeks she was converted to a cheaper long-term rental scheme (with the same chair). After a year the family were happy to make a final payment to buy the seat outright.
Jane continues do well and now sees her friends every day - we’re delighted that we were able to help find practical solutions to improve her quality of life in what was a complex medical and social situation.
