Although equipment can help many people with disability or reduced mobility, in some situations the home environment has to be re-designed. Sometimes building work is necessary to improve safety, accessibility and long-term independence.
At Fortuna we specialise in a full range of home adaptations for the elderly and less able, to make life easier, safer and enable you to stay in your own home.
Our team of skilled, dependable builders are highly experienced in this type of work. They are able to carry out a full range of home adaptations from the fitting of grab rails right through to wet rooms or permanent ramps. Our team can provide an end-to-end service, including design, supply, installation and aftercare - all completed with the minimum disruption.
Contact us today for a free survey and quotation, whether you know what you want or are simply looking for ideas and advice on what can help with your individual needs.
Bathing and showering are vital for both hygiene and well-being but can become difficult with reduced mobility. We can advise on installations which can help.
Wetrooms
Almost any space or existing bathroom can be turned into a shower room or level access wetroom designed for safety, accessibility and ease of use. You can choose which tiles and fittings you want and then let our team take care of everything.
Bath Installations
Some peoples needs can be met by the installation of a specialist bath. We help you choose the most appropriate option for both users and carers, including:
Walk-in baths with doors | Variable-height baths | Baths with integrated seats or hoists
Shower cubicles
Sometimes peoples circumstances change and they are no longer able to access their existing bathroom. By installing cubicles we can create a safe, comfortable and accessible showering and/or toileting area anywhere in your home - without major building work.

Permanent Ramp
Many wheelchair users and people with limited mobility struggle with uneven surfaces or steps, making it difficult for them to access their homes or other buildings. In many cases a temporary, moveable ramp will be enough, however in other cases semi-permanent (modular) or permanent (concrete or timber) ramps may be better.
All ramps are designed to meet relevant safety standards and your specific access requirements.
However, in some cases, facilitating access to the person's home may require other solutions including:
• Steps - if the steps into your home are too high, half-steps may be easier to manage
• External handrails - galvanised or stainless-steel handrails can be fitted
• Level-access
- many doors have a ridge which makes life hard for people with reduced mobility.
We can level this or even remove the whole doorway
• Wider doors for wheelchair access
• Extensions to support single-storey living
• Levelling and groundwork
- we can help make your outside space safe and free of trip hazards
Stair Rails and Grab Rails
Addition of stair rails, also known as mopstick rails, and smaller grab rails can be fitted to most staircases and make using stairs easier and safer.
StairSteady
The StairSteady is a simple concept consisting of a rail and a handle which moves freely when pushed but locks when weight is applied. It helps the user maintain their strength and mobility, while providing a cost-effective alternative to a stairlift. We can help through the whole process including trying a demo unit in our showroom, afree survey, quote and installation.
Stairlifts
Stairlifts can be fitted to almost any staircase, straight, curved, spiral and even outdoors. They can normally be fitted in less than a day and enable the user to safely access the upper floor of their property. They come with a full range of options such as powered seat swivel, powered folding of seat and footplate, powered and manual hinge tracks to enable installation even in complex situations and can be tailored to meet your individual needs.
StairSteady
Whilst mobile hoists can provide a flexible Moving & Handling solution suitable for temporary or shared use, overhead gantry hoists and ceiling-track hoists have advantages, including ease of use, safety and space efficiency.
Ceiling Track Hoists
Ceiling hoists are ideal for individuals with higher levels of physical need and systems can be designed to suit almost any property and may include:
• Straight or curved track systems
• Full-room “H-frame” coverage
• Gate and transit couplings for room-to-room transfers
• Manual or powered traverse
• Turntables for multi-directional movement
We can carry out a site survey, discuss your needs, install the equipment and provide a full aftercare service including repairs and LOLER testing.

Our projects are delivered by an experienced team of surveyors, technicians and support staff, all of whom are:
• Fully DBS checked
• Trained and experienced in adaptation work
• Committed to the highest installation standards
We work closely with individuals, families, OTs, and Local Authorities to ensure every adaptation meets clinical, safety and practical requirements.
