Mobility Scooters

Mobility scooters can instantly brighten up your life through giving you comfortable ease of movement while out and about. There are many reasons why people need mobility scooters. These include finding it difficult to walk long distances or being unable to drive.  A mobility scooter can bring back independence and enjoyment by allowing users the freedom to travel at their own leisure.

Mobility Scooters from Fortuna Mobility

As an independent supplier of mobility products, we offer an extensive range of scooters from all the leading manufacturers. We’re here to help you find the mobility scooter that’s perfect for your lifestyle, needs and budget from lightweight and car-transportable ‘Boot Scooters’ through to powerful ‘Road Scooters’.

What are the different types of mobility scooters?

Boot Scooters

These are the most common scooters and can be broken up into components which make it easier to carry them by car. These travel at 4mph and range is less than a larger road scooter. They’re particularly useful around town. Examples include the Apex Rapid, GoGo Traveller and GoGo Sport. There tends to be a trade-off between weight vs comfort and range. The Sorrento with its pneumatic tyres is a good example of a really comfortable boot scooter.

Folding Scooters

These ultracompact scooters will fold up, often at the press of a button which make them easier to transport. However, they may be more expensive and less able to cope with uneven pavements

Road Scooters

Road Scooters, like the Colt Pursuit, are generally larger, can travel up to 8mph, have a longer range and may be more comfortable. However, they cannot be easily broken up into components, together with their size mean they may be more difficult to transport by car – read our Scooter Transport page to learn about the options. When travelling at 8mph a scooter should always be used on the road – not the pavement. A sub-set of these scooters, which have a maximum speed of 4mph and are often called Pavement Scooters, like the Grange which provides a very comfortable ride.

Things to consider when choosing a scooter

Choosing the right scooter might seem simple, however there are a number of issues to consider.

  • Is it right for you?
  • Can you control it?
  • Your size
  • How far you need go? (Passenger weight, ground conditions, temperature and battery condition/size can affect distance of travel)
  • Speed
  • Transportation
  • Pavements
  • Will you use it on roads?
  • Reliability
