At Fortuna, we understand that inviting installers into your home is a big step. That’s why our installation process is professionally managed, clearly explained and carried out with courtesy.
When we install a stairlift, our focus is simple: safe fitting, minimal disruption, and confidence from day one.
Confirmation: one of our team will contact you shortly before the installation date to confirm arrival time and any final details.
Access and preparation: please ensure clear access to the staircase, hallway and landing. Removing pictures, ornaments and any trip hazards helps our technician work efficiently.
Utilities: we may need electricity for our tools, during the installation.
Arrival: our trained technician will introduce themselves and carry identification.
Parking: if possible, please allow a nearby parking space, but don’t worry if that’s difficult.
Protection of your home: we take care to protect flooring and surrounding areas using dust sheets and coverings where required.
Initial Review: our engineers will arrive with a written plan for installing your stairlift. They will start by checking that access and power arrangements are as expected.
Checking the the staircase: we’ll confirm exact placement of the rail before starting.
Fitting: the rail is securely fixed to the stair treads using discreet brackets designed for strength and stability.
The rail is fitted directly to the stairs - not the wall, which means:
~ no structural wall damage
~ no major building work
~ less disruption
Safety & cleanliness: we aim to keep disruption to a minimum, maintain a tidy workspace throughout and follow all relevant safety procedures.
Once the rail is in place:
The stairlift carriage is mounted onto the rail
The seat, arms and footrest are assembled
Safety edges and sensors are tested
Swivel and locking mechanisms are adjusted
Our stairlifts includes built-in safety features and each one is carefully checked during installation.
Our stairlifts are battery-powered, charging continuously when parked at designated charging points. We:
Connect the charging system
Ensure safe cable routing
Test power supply and backup battery function
Even in a power cut, your stairlift will continue to operate using battery power.
Before handover, our engineers perform a full operational test:
Smooth travel up and down the staircase
Stop/start functionality
Obstacle sensors
Remote controls
Seat swivel locking
Footrest and arm safety mechanisms
We will not leave until everything is functioning properly.
Once installation is complete, we guide you through:
How to operate the controls
How to fold the seat and footrest
How to use the remote call stations
What to do in the unlikely event of an issue
You’ll have time to try it yourself while we’re there. We want you to feel completely confident.
Straight stairlift: can typically completed within a few hours.
Curved stairlift: installation may take longer due to the precision alignment required, but should be completed within a day
