The StairSteady is a simple but brilliant award-winning concept originally invented by a Sheffield schoolgirl. It consists of a rail and a handle which moves freely when pushed but locks when weight is applied. It can help to keep you independent and safe on your stairs.
Because it is so simple it’s ideal for most homes and once fitted is unobtrusive, unlike most stairlifts, with the added advantage of being considerably cheaper - prices start from around £995 for a simple staircase (excluding installation costs, which will vary with the configuration of the staircase).
We supply the StairSteady exclusively within the UK. Please find further information for:
overseas enquiries.
The StairSteady was invented by Ruth Amos, as part of her school GCSE course when she was just 15 years old. Her achievement with StairSteady was recognised with several awards including the prestigious ‘Young Engineer for Great Britain’ and ‘Best Established Product’ (British Healthcare Trade Association).
From this idea StairSteady has grown into an international brand with a network of dealers throughout the UK
The StairSteady is very flexible and can help people of all ages with a wide range of needs, including both short and long-term problems. A few examples of situations which might be helped include: stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinsons, head injury, ME, diabetes, amputations, obesity visual impairment as well as many other conditions that might affect balance and stability.
The StairSteady acts as secure sliding support for going either up or down the stairs.
The sturdy handle lets you have both hands in front of you as you climb or descend the stairs at your own pace. Once you reach the top or bottom the handle folds neatly out of the way, so it doesn’t spoil the look of your home.
The StairSteady is manufactured in the UK to the highest ISO 9000 standard and is quick and easy to install, requiring minimal ongoing care.
As is the case with many products designed to help people with mobility problems, it can be difficult to be sure whether the StairSteady is right for you. We are always happy to provide advice and you can come to our Enfield showroom where you can talk to our expert staff and try out one of our demonstration units before you choose whether to go ahead.
StairSteady will fit most stair types but before you make the final decision our technicians will carry out a home survey to make absolutely sure your stairs are suitable, so that you don’t waste your time or money.
"We both find our StairSteady so easy to use. We are keen to show others our StairSteady. Many thanks for your help."
Mrs Foster
"I live in an upstairs flat and I am really pleased with my StairSteady. I feel much safer on the stairs because it feels so sturdy. I do go up and down more often now; my daughter says it is because I like playing with it! The StairSteady is worth every penny and is much cheaper than a chair lift. Really the best thing I have purchased in years."
Mrs Tattershall
"It makes a huge difference having two arms in front of me. I feel in control and active. I can now come and go out of my flat as I wish."
Mrs Robertson
"I have found the StairSteady a great help. As the rail can be set up at any height it was fitted in the perfect position for me to use. The benefit of the StairSteady is that I am still able to use the stairs rather than becoming dependent on a stairlift and, losing my mobility. The fitting team was really helpful and pleasant. I have no hesitation in recommending a StairSteady."
Mrs Smith
