LOLER Regulations for Hoists

In order to verify that lifting equipment and accessories remain safe for use, and to detect and remedy any deterioration in good time, thorough examinations are required throughout the lifetime of the equipment.

If the equipment fails the test, it may not be fit for safe use and should no longer be used - with immediate effect - until the problem has been rectified.

Our technicians will complete a LOLER checklist which sets out the tests that need, including:

i) visual examination of hoist and accessories

ii) an assessment of wear and tear

iii) load-testing to check hoist is meeting specification
For instance, that a hoist with a SWL of 180kg can safely lift that weight

iv) some disassembly or internal examination may be needed to check for damaged parts

For a more in-depth look at LOLER, please refer to the Health and Safety executive website and the LOLER code of practice and guidance.
