Excerpts from the EON website:
Featuring the StairSteady
The StairSteady is one step forwards in providing safety and independence when navigating the stairs. Using stairs can keep people active and help promote and maintain mobility, but it can be a worry for some if they have joint pain or have issues with balance. This is where the StairSteady can really help, this unique mobility support has provided people with the confidence needed to use the stairs, helping people to stay safe and keep active.
Positive impacts on our ageing community
We've installed 5,000 home solutions – including stair support with the StairSteady, cooking safety and AI products with the Pippa hob safety device, and connection with loved ones with the Amazon Echo, to name a few – in 2,500 homes across the UK to help encourage residents’ mobility, freedom and independence at home. By partnering with Newcastle University, to periodically study the impact this has had on lives, we found significant improvements in people’s quality of life. People have been reabled to do activities alone. 14% of people who had high dependencies have regained complete independence, and we saw 50% reduction in levels of loneliness, in people who had previously reported feeling lonely all the time.
Meet Paul
"My name is Paul, I’m 71 years old. In 2015 I was seriously ill. I had a life threatening illness, which I wasn’t expected to survive. I beat it, and I came out. The quality of life was basically nil. I had a phone call from E.ON Homes for Living. The StairSteady has been the greatest thing in my life that has helped me. Now I can go upstairs standing up, knowing that I’m not going to fall down, knowing that I’m not going to pass out, and the StairSteady won’t let me fall downstairs. If E.ON hadn’t have put these measures in, I’d have probably given up. They’re not just gadgets, they are actually helping me live. They are a lifeline for me."
Meet Francis
"My name is Francis, I’ve lived in the same house for about 40 years now. This house is special to me because it’s the second house my husband and I bought together. I’ve got Glaucoma, which is an eye condition, and I’ve needed several eye operations to preserve my sight. I got to know about the support that was available when someone rang me up from E.ON. I was very keen to have the grab rails in the bathroom. I felt quite insecure with my balance. The StairSteady, I’ve also had on the stairs. I’ve got two older sisters. One is blind and crippled and can’t manage to come here. But she visited me here, and she got up the stairs to the toilet using the StairSteady. That made me so happy to be able to have my sister visit."
