Fortuna achieves Department for Transport recognition
Fortuna has successfully completed Department for Transport approved training, giving customers the confidence that their needs will be carefully assessed to ensure they can use suitable mobility equipment safely.
Many scooters are purchased online with minimal, if any, advice from the seller and limited aftersales support. This may lead to the customer choosing a scooter which is 'wrong' for them and, in a worst case scenario, actually dangerous for them and others.
Fortuna is committed to supplying equipment that is safe and meets the customer's needs. To further improve our assessment process, members of our team recently completed Driving Mobility's retailer training course (watch video), supported by the Department for Transport.
The latest 'Powered Wheelchair and Mobility Scooter (PWMS) Retailer Training Course' was held at the Driving Mobility Assessment Centre in Welwyn Garden City, managed by the charity Herts Ability. Two Fortuna members of staff, Stephanie Petrou, Client Support Advisor and Sean Awcock, Senior Assessor and Independent Living Consultant, attended the course.
Driving Mobility's Occupational Therapists guided Stephaine and Sean through a practical and clinical model that ensures people buying or renting powered mobility equipment, are given comprehensive advice on the right product for their individual needs, along with safe driving guidance. On completion of the course, they received certificates confirming that Fortuna is an approved retailer.

Elaine Ferguson, Fortuna Senior Manager, said in conclusion: "We are proud of our new Department for Transport recognition and will display our certificates and window sticker with pride. These will give added reassurance to our customers by highlighting that we are trustworthy and only provide informed, objective advice on mobility scooters and powerchairs."
